Music Lessons

1-ON-1 & GROUP LESSONS FOR ALL AGES & SKILL LEVELS

What You Get in a Music Lesson

For all music lessons, you will get fundamental techniques that improve your skill level that assist you in expressing yourself more freely – and we have fun doing it! Even if you don’t want to become a professional musician, I provide plenty of performance opportunities to support you in building confidence, feeling more comfortable on stage and taking your expression to the next level.

For every instrument you will learn body awareness and warm-up exercises, ear training, sight reading and music dictation through the Kodály Method, reading music, music theory, song and style development, and performance. I find this quote from the great jazz legend, Charlie Parker very inspiring: “You’ve got to learn your instrument. Then, you practice, practice, practice. And then, when you finally get up there on the bandstand, forget all that and just wail.”

Voice

Singing is one of the most innate musical expressions on the planet. If you have a voice you can sing! But maybe you just need a little vocal training under your belt to expand your range – or maybe you have a naturally beautiful singing voice but struggle with singing in front of others – or perhaps you struggle with singing through your register break – or possibly you are an experienced singer and want to try a different style.

Wherever you are in your singer journey, I am here to support you in freeing up your voice. In private vocal lessons we expand your vocal range, learning to sing higher or lower. We learn to control your voice so that you sing longer phrases, sing with dynamics and power, and easily navigate your vocal breaks until you are confident in your singing. We explore songs and styles that you want to sing in whatever capacity you choose.

Piano

Learning to play a piano can be one of the most gratifying things! If you are a beginner, you will definitely play with both hands independently in no time!

You will learn to read music, develop your musical ear, understand harmonic progression, and how to accompany yourself or others. We practice beginning songs, as well as a song of your choice in whatever style you would like.

Trombone

Not to be confused with a trumpet, what makes this instrument so cool is that it doesn’t have any valves! With a unique slide, a trombone has a brassy yet smooth, rich, warm tone.

In trombone lessons, you’ll learn how to regulate your breath control, expand your range, learn to read music, and play songs in different genres. Trombone is by far the best instrument ever!

Songwriting

This is where we take your poetry, or maybe one of your hit jingles bobbing around your head, and make it a living, breathing song! I give you the tools to understand song structure, rhythm, harmonic progression and the balance between melodic line and lyrics.

By the end of the songwriting process, you will have a chord chart, sheet music and a basic recording. You also have the option to have it professionally recorded by a media production company. You walk away with a completed song!
