Music & Dance Lessons in St Petersburg FL
For all dance lessons, you will get fundamental techniques that improve your skill level that assist you in expressing yourself more freely – and we have fun doing it! Even if you don’t want to become a professional dancer, I provide you with the skills to care for your body and explore your creative movement.
Each lesson includes good warm-up exercises to prevent injuries, body isolations to increase mobility and range of motion, instruction in learning new steps or styling, and proper cool down to increase flexibility. I may include conditioning and stretching like basic pilates and yoga.
I find this quote from Martha Graham to be remarkable: “Think of the magic of that foot, comparatively small, upon which your whole weight rests. It’s a miracle, and the dance is a celebration of that miracle.”
Another one of my favorite Latin social dances! Cha Cha traditionally came from Cuba and evolved as a slower version of Mambo and rumba that included a triplet rhythm. In the 1950s, Cha Cha became popularized by Americans and later incorporated into the American Ballroom scene.
It is usually danced with a partner, but can also include shines. Cha Cha is a great break to dancing a fast Salsa! It’s a much slower rhythm that just begs to accentuate the hips, but it also has a mini challenge with the triplet step. Did I mention that it’s super sexy?
Bachata has to be one of the most sensual partner dances, and the easiest to learn! Bachata, like Salsa, has different styles like Dominican Bachata, Bachata Moderna and Bachata Tradicional.
Depending on the style, it can be a very slow tempo to a slower medium pace. It is a beautiful partner dance, and can also include fancy or simple footwork. Highly recommended if you are just beginning to dance. High rating on the sexy meter.
A true American dance style, East Coast Swing comes from the Lindy Hop dances straight out of the Big Band Jazz Era, from the 1920s-1940s. The music and dance are a beautiful mixture of Afro-Spiritual, Ragtime, European music and the Blues. Swing music had its revival in the early 2000s and has become an international social dance that connects people around the world.
East Coast Swing is danced with a partner and is absolutely fun, light-hearted, bouncy, happy and just downright swingin’. I don’t know if I’d consider East Coast Swing sexy, but I guess it depends on your taste!
Choreography for weddings and quinceañeras can be any combination of the dance styles listed above, as well as foundational steps in Waltz and Ballroom. This could be for a couple, like bride and father, or bride and groom, or it can be for a group of dancers.
It can also be a fun, zany setting from a musical theatre number, like Rent or Hamilton – whatever floats your boat! My only request if you are interested in this service is that we schedule at least two months out from the official date to give everyone enough time to learn and practice the routines. Thank you!
